Function of Lymphatic System
Major organs in Lymphatic system
Lymph
Clear, watery liquid formed from interstitial (between cells) fluid
When interstitial fluid enters lymph vessel it is then called lymph.
How does lymph move through lymph vessels
Lymph does not actively pump like blood. Instead the surrounding skeletal muscles provide pressure, which pushes the fluid along.
2 cells found in lymph nodes
Lymphocytes - type of leukocyte found in lymphatic system
Macrophages - cells that engulf foreign substance
Lymph nodules
Not surrounded by a capsule like lymph nodes are.
e.g. tonsils, appendix, spleen, thymus gland
Appendix and tonsils have high concentration of lymph nodules.
