2
Q

What is the gas generator turbine

A

Absorbs 60-70% of total pressure energy from exhaust gases. Absorption determined by load the turbine is driving.

7
Q

What is axial flow

A

Used on modern GTE, any number of stages, allows high airflow

8
Q

Turbine converts

A

Gas energy from combustion into torque. Impact of gas flow causes turbine to rotate which makes the torque drive turbine shaft.

Q

What is reaction-impulse

A

Most used, impulse at root, reaction at tip which makes exit pressure constant

16
Q

Cracks on disc require

A

Replacement of disc and rotor

17
Q

How do stress rupture cracks appear

A

Minute hairline cracks on LE and TE at right angles to edge length.
Range from 1/16 length upwards

18
Q

How does deformation from over temperature appear

A

Waviness along LE. The LE must be straight and uniform thickness except from areas of blending.

19
Q

Stress crack or deformation means

A

Over temperature condition suspected.

20
Q

What is creep

A

Slow deformation on a molecule level caused by prolonged exposure to high stresses. Metals and plastics experience.

21
Q

What promotes creep

A

Extreme temperatures. Results show dimensional changes.

22
Q

What does scoring indicate

A

Length is out of tolerance.
