examples of macrocodes
erythromycin, clarythromycin and azithromycin
the macrocodes are excreted
via the liver, biliary tract and the gut and NOT via the kidneys
macrocodes are
lipophilic so they pass through cell membranes very easily so are useful for treating infections where bacteria hide from the hosts immune system by getting into host cells (legionella) and bacteria that do not have a proper bacterial cell wall (mycoplasma and chlamydia)
are macrocodes safe to use in pregnancy
erythromycin is safe to use in pregnancy but clarythromycin and azithromycin have not been trialled
