“UPSET - RECOVER”
- Push
- Roll
- Power
- Stabilize (don’t forget SPEEDBRAKES)

Upset parameters:
- Pitch > 25 degrees nose up

PF: “FLAPS____” according to flap extension schedule and BUG FLAP SPEED.
PF: Verify VSD displayed for one or both pilots
PF: “GEAR DOWN, FLAPS 15” and BUG FLAP 15 speed

PM: Set landing gear lever down, verify 3 green, set flap lever, &&&& Engine start switches to CONT. Set speed brake lever to ARMED. Verify SPEED BRAKE ARMED light is illuminated

PF: “FLAPS 30 or 40, LANDING CHECKLIST”

PM: Set Flaps and read landing checklist

MISSED APPROACH ALTITUDE: No Later Than 1000ft, verify missed approach altitude is set. On G/S or G/P, can set at any point. On any other, must be at least 300ft under the missed approach altitude so the aircraft doesn’t stop at it.

PM: Set Flaps and read landing checklist

@1000ft
Confirm aircraft says “1000”
PM: “CLEARED TO LAND”

MISSED APPROACH ALTITUDE: No Later Than 1000ft, verify missed approach altitude is set. On G/S or G/P, can set at any point. On any other, must be at least 300ft under the missed approach altitude so the aircraft doesn’t stop at it.

PF: Verify thrust levers closed

PM: “SPEEDBRAKES UP”, verify speedbrake lever is up

@80kts
PM: “80 KTS”

Q

Rejected Takeoff Notes

A
  • Even with RTO selected on the ground, max braking will not initiate unless the wheel speed is above 90kts. Aka if you reject before 90kts, you have to manually brake, the autobrakes won’t kick in.
  • Use manual braking below 90kts
  • If a takeoff is rejected before the THR HLD annunciation (at 80kts), the A/T should be disconnected as the thrust levers are moved to idle. Otherwise the thrust levers will advance to the takeoff thrust position again.
  • Once the takeoff roll has begun, any movement of the thrust levers towards idle requires the crew to accomplish an RTO.
  • After an RTO, complete any non-normal checklists and refer to QRH section 0 - post RTO considerations

Q

Rejected Takeoff Procedure

A
  1. “ABORT, I’VE GOT IT”
  2. Close thrust levers
  3. Disengage A/Ta
  4. Apply max manual brakes or verify operation of RTO autobrakes
  5. Apply maximum reverse thrust (consistent with condition)
Note Captain has option to manually deploy SPEEDBRAKES prior to thrust reverse.
  6. Verify operation of the SPEEDBRAKES or extend SPEEDBRAKES if not deployed
  7. Continue max braking until certain airplane will stop on runway then clean up
  8. As soon as practical, make appropriate RTO PA in accordance with the FOM (11.2.5)
    - “THIS IS THE CAPTAIN. WE HAVE DISCONTINUED THE TAKEOFF. PLEASE REMAIN SEATED WITH YOUR SEATBELTS FASTENED.” (Also RTO with evacuation)
  9. Complete any non-normal checklists and refer to QRH section 0 - post RTO considerations

FO
- Try to note brakes on speed for brake cooling
- Verify all the actions
- “SPEEDBRAKES UP or NO SPEEDBRAKES”
- “80 KNOTS”
- Tell tower of abort
- As soon as practical make sure captain does RTO PA
- Complete any non-normal checklists and refer to QRH section 0 - post RTO considerations

Q

CFIT Terrain Avoidance Maneuver

A

Accomplish the maneuver anytime you hear “PULL UP” and other words with that.

  1. Disconnect A/P
  2. Disconnect A/T
  3. Aggressively apply maximum* thrust
  4. Simultaneously roll wings level and rotate to an initial attitude of 20 degrees nose up
do not use flight direction commands
  5. Level wings for max performance unless you need to avoid taller terrain
  6. RETRACT SPEEDBRAKES (always forgotten)
  7. If terrain remains a threat, continue rotation up to the PLIs or stick shaker or initial buffer
  8. Do not change configuration until clear of terrain
  9. Monitor RA for increasing terrain separation
  10. When clear of terrain, decrease pitch attitude, accelerate and clean up

PM
- Assure maximum thrust
- Verify required actions have been completed and call out any omissions
- Monitor V/S and RA for terrain clearance
- Call out any trend toward terrain contact

Q

Visual Approach

A

ATC can give clearance if within 35NM of airport, crew has airport in sight and VFR is reported.

Basically give yourself vectors and fly it like an ILS. Nice to intercept LOC at flaps 5, 180kts

PF: A/T Off but maintain A/P if possible

Announce engine failure.
PF: “SELECT CONTINUOUR THRUST”

PM: Select Continuous thrust

PF: Set thrust levers for continuous thrust

Engine out cruise page should pop up and be selected by PM.

PF: “SELECT FL ____”

PM: Sets it and points and confirms altitude (Same as PF)

PF: “SELECT LEVEL CHANGE AND SET ____” (may need to change mach number to KIAS)

PM: Sets that and declares an emergency with ATC. Requests immediate descent to FL____ and gets into QRH.
