What is the difference between guidelines, protocols, and SOPs?
Guidelines and protocols guide decisions.
Guidelines are more modifiable and flexible, adaptable, sort of like a reference.
Protcols have some room for adjustment, but still has a management plan
SOPs are the processes, very rigid, detailed, step by step instructions.
Why are protocols good to have?
What are potential downsides?
More clarity about responsibilities, can make things run more smoothly.
Help with routine procedures, consistency.
Influence public policy, be available info to people.
Downsides: Scientific evidence maybe misinterpreted, not applicable for animal/population, not developed for user in mind (should have entire team of who is involved to make protocol)
