3
Q

What is solid

A

Particles are tightly packed in a pattern. They vibrate but won’t move. They retain shape.

Q

What is a liquid

A

Particles are close together but with no regular pattern.
Particles can flow and easily move or slide past one another.
Liquids take shape in container.

Q

What is gas

A

Particles in gas are well separated with no regular pattern.
Particles in gas vibrate freely at high speeds.
Gasses assume shape of container.

12
Q

What are atoms made of

A

We cannot see atoms with our eyes. Each atom has a nucleus in the center and electrons around it.

16
Q

What are neutrons

A

They are no charge, (neutral), found in the nucleus. They take up most of the atoms mass

17
Q

What are electrons

A

They are a negative charge, move around the nucleus. They are very light and determine how atoms bond.

18
Q

What are the two types of mixtures

A

Homogenous and hetrogenous

19
Q

What is homogenous

A

It is a mixture that is evenly mixed with eacother

20
Q

What is hetrogenous

A

It is a mixture that does not evenly mix

21
Q

What is a molecule

A

The smallest unit of a chemical substance that keeps all of its physical and chemical properties.

22
Q

How is a molecule formed

A

When two or more atoms are held together by chemical bonds, behaving as a single unit

23
Q

What is lattics

A

The highly ordered, repeating 3D arrangement of atoms, ions, or molecules within a crystal.

24
Q

What is a solute

A

Is the substance that dissolves in liquid

25
What is a solvent
Is a substance that does the dissolving
26
What is a solution
Is a mixture where the solute spreads evenly through the solvent
27
28
What is a colloid
Is a mixture where small particles spread through another substance but do not fully dissolve
29
What is a suspension
Is a mixture where large particles settle to the bottom over time
30
What is physical change
Changes the form or state of a substance, but no new substance is made
31
What is a chemical change
Forms a new substance with different properties
32
Chemical formulae
Shows the elements in a compund A small number after a symbol shows the number of atoms Different capitol letters show different elements
