The verb and every piece of info after the subject in a sentence.
‘Frida THREW THE BASKETBALL’
Complement
An element required to complete the meaning of a verb. If a sentence does not make sense without it then it is the complement.
A complement must follow a linking verb.
Coordination and subordination
The use of coordinating and subordinating conjunctions respectively.
Modifiers
A modifier adds information to the sentence and is not necessarily required for the sentence to still make sense.
Adverbials
An adverbial is when a clause or phrase acts like an adverb.
Active voice
Active voice: The subject performs the action.
‘Frida threw the basketball’
Passive voice
Passive voice: The subject receives the action.
‘The basketball was thrown by Frida’
Agentless voice
Agentless voice: The agent has been omitted.
‘The basketball was thrown’.
Antithesis
Putting two contrasting ideas near each other in a sentence in parallel structures.
‘One SMALL STEP for man, one GIANT LEAP for mankind’
Parallelism
Repetition of grammatical structures in succession.
‘Work hard, play hard’ (repeated verb + adjective)
Listing
Presenting related ideas in a similar grammatical form.
“Amongst the animals in our zoo, we have, elephants, tigers, birds, lions..”
