mini gene expression Flashcards

(7 cards)

1
Q

what is gene expression

A

Gene expression is the process by which the information
encoded in a gene is turned into a function. This mostly
occurs via the transcription of RNA molecules that code
for proteins or non-coding RNA molecules that serve
other functions.

Q

what is a good primer

A

Lack of secondary priming sites
 A melting temperature (Tm)
 Between 52°C to 65°C
 Absence of dimerization capability
 Absence of significant hairpin formation
 >3 bp
 Low specific binding at the 3’ end
 Lower GC content to avoid mispriming
