What criteria must be met before an Amber alert Can be activated?
Amber alert shall be considered in all Missing children investigations.
Guidelines to be met:
Investigator beleives child under 18 has been abducted
Investigator bekeives child is in danger
There is descriptive information about: child, abductor vehicle
And investigator beleives an immediate broadcast alert will help in locating the child.
Missing person reports are accepted at the time that they are made and given full consideration and attention regardless of:
Where the Missing person resides.
Where the reportee resides
Reportees relationship to Missing person
Length of time the person has been Missing
Missing persons age,sex,race citizenship,ethnic origin,religion,sexual orientation,gender identity,gender expression,beleif,social standing,disability or lifestyle.
Whed did the Missing persons Act come into effect and Why ?
July 1st 2019
To assist Police officers investigating Missing perso occurrences by providing them the ability in certain circumstances to:
- to obtain a court order for a person or entity to produce records that would assist in locating a missing person.a
- to obtain a search warrant to allow entry onto a premise to locate a Missing person.
- make an urgent demand for records without judicial authorization.
What is the Missing persons Unit(MPU)
It is the centralized unit for the Toronto police service that ensures a consistent process and investigative response for all ovcurrences of persons missing in the city of toronto, on the way to or from Toronto,
Includes Newly reported and historic cases of missing persons and unidentified human remains.
What will the availabilty if MPU ensure?
- Standarized investigations and a consistent process of review across the service.
- collarboration of all partners to leverage all available resources that may be utilized as a resource for investigative assistance,information and community mobilization.
- all relevant information is entered on the National Centre for Missing persons and Unidentified Remains (NCMPUR)website
- committed to a victim centred approach (victim upport and management ) to all missing person occurrences
- continuity and consistency of file management
Who is MPU available to?
All members of the service as a resource to:
Provide direction,guidance,follow-up and support for missing person investigations
Designated by the Chief to coordinate,manage and report on the use of urgent demands for records outlined in section 8 of the Missing persons act.
