What is mitosis?
Mitosis is when a cell reproduces itself by splitting to form two cells with identical sets of chromosomes.
What happens when a diploid cell divides by mitosis?
You get 2 cells that are both diploid
5 steps of mitosis
1) Cell duplicates DNA so there’s one copy for each cell.
2) Chromosomes then line up at the centre of the cell and cell fibres pull them apart.
3) The 2 arms of each chromosome go to opposite ends of the cell.
4) Membranes form around the new set of chromosomes. These become the nuclei of the 2 new cells.
5) Lastly, the cytoplasm divides.
