What are the stages of mitosis, in order?
interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
Interphase
replication of DNA, cell is not dividing
Prophase
chromosomes become visible
Metaphase
chromosomes go towards the equator of the cell
Anaphase
each of two threads of chromosome go towards each pole
Telophase
nuclear envelope reforms. Cytokynesis splitting of the cells
Why is mitosis important?
growth. differentiation, so that each cell has a particular function. repair, if cells die or are damaged then the new cells are identical because of mitosis
