Monitor Browser Performance

A
  • if your browser feels sluggish, you can check its task manager (available in Chrome and Edge) to see which tabs or extensions are using the most resources

Q

Clear Browser Cache

A
  • one of the most important maintenance tasks you can perform is clearing your browser’s cache
  • cached data is stored by your browser to help speed up the loading of frequently visited websites, but over time, it can become outdated or excessive, leading to performance issues
17
Q

What is a Cache?

A
  • a collection of temporary files stored by your browser, including images, scripts, and other website data
  • while it can improve loading speeds by reusing stored data, it can also lead to problems like outdated content or slow performance if not cleared periodically
18
Q

Why clear your Cache?

A
  • Improved Performance- clearing the cache frees up storage and can resolve issues like slow page loading or website errors
  • View Updated Content- sometimes websites don’t display the latest content because the browser is loading an old version from the cache
  • clearing it ensures you’re seeing the most current version of a site
  • Troubleshooting Website Issues- if a website is behaving strangely-like not loading correctly or showing old information-clearing the cache can often resolve the issue
19
Q

How to clear your Cache

A
  • Google Chrome- click on the three dots in the upper-right corner, go to More Tools > Clear Browsing Data, and select Cached Images and Files; then click Clear Data
  • Mozilla Firefox- open the menu in the upper-right corner, choose Settings, go to Privacy & Security, and under Cookies and Site Data, click Clear Data
  • Microsoft Edge- click the three dots, go to Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services, then under Clear Browsing Data, choose Cached Images and Files and click Clear Now
  • Safari- go to Safari > Preferences, click Privacy, and choose Manage Website Data to remove the cache
  • e.g. if you notice that a website isn’t displaying new updates (like a social media feed or news page), clearing your cache can often fix this by forcing your browser to fetch the latest content
