What is a mole?
Convenient way of counting atoms
1 mole of a substance contains 6.022x10²³ atoms
How is the relative atomic mass related?
Relative atomic mass = the mass of one mole of that element
For example one mole of magnesium has a mass of 24g, therefore it’s Ar is 24
How is the relative formula mass related?
Relative formula mass = the mass of mole of that compound
For example a mole of water has a mass of 18g, as it’s Mr is 18.
How to find the number of moles?
Mass = Number of moles x Mr or Ar
Number of moles = Mass/ Mr or Ar
Mr or Ar = Mass/ number of moles
