Explain the difference between monitoring and evaluating
Monitoring takes place during a PDP and evaluating takes place after. Monitoring involves reviewing your progress as you work through your PDP to see if the PDP os effective at developing your performance. If you are not improving you can make relevant changes to your PDP such as intensity or different approaches. Evaluating involved looking back at the end of your PDP to judge how effective it was at developing your weakness
Why should a performer monitor and evaluate their progress?
Identify a method used to monitor performance
Training diary
Describe a training diary
Dairy set out in a booklet with new page for each session
At top of page was a box for the date and underneath was a table with headings for my session goal, my session plan, how I felt during the session and any adaptations for the next session
Immediately after each session I wrote exactly what I did during session in chronological order without missing anything out
I then recorded how I felt in session eg my session went okay however I found the repetition drill very tedious because it was so repetitive
I then considered if I had met my session goal
After I wrote down any adaptations for next session eg with example above I wrote I should change the repetition drill to a combination drill to practice a variety of shots
I read over info and used it to set a goal for next session
Explain suitability of training diary
Analyse the training diary
Evaluate the training diary
Identify one method used to evaluate your PDP
Re-testing
Describe re-testing
I retested the PPW
Completed this retest at the end of my 6 week PDP
Like my initial test, I played a game of badminton against the same opponent and also carried it out immediately after the game was finished, in a quiet place on my own, like before
This time I compared my scores to my initial test rather than the NORMS
Then able to identify if I had reached my long term goal or not
If I had reached my goal I then identified a new area of weakness from my retest and took it back through the cycle of analysis
If I hadn’t reached my goal then I extended my PDP for 2 weeks making any necessary adaptations before retesting again
Explain suitability of re-testing
Analyse suitability of re-testing
Difficulties when monitoring and evaluating mental and emotional factors
Describe future development needs based on the evaluation of your PDP
