1995- volcano began to erupt huge clouds of ash, and over the next 5 years these eruptions continued- with pyroclastic flows affecting much of the island.

E-Two thirds of all housing and 3/4 of all infrastructure were destroyed

• a lot of farmland was destroyed or abandoned as it was too close to the volcano- severely affected agriculture
