What is lateral moraine?
A long mound of material deposited where the side of the glacier was.
Medial moraine?
A long mound of material deposited where two lateral moraines have joined together as two glaciers meet. It’s in the centre of the valley.
Terminal moraine
Builds up at snout of glacier when it remains stationary. Widest and highest type of moraine.
Recessional moraine
Is moraine left by a glacier during a temporary halt in the retreat of the ice.
Ground moraine
A thin layer of material deposited over a large area as a glacier melts.
