Details of eruption
Phreatic eruption - means that water seeped into the volcano and became superheated by the magma, ejecting hot ash, rocks and steam. Phreatic eruptions do not eject lava from from the magma chamber.
Huge pyroclastic flows trapped 250 people hiking.
Volcanic ash covered the mountain up to 50cm thick.
Details was thought to be dormant until it underwent a serious of minor eruptions between 1991 and 2007.
Erupted without warming as no minor earthquakes were detected beforehand, usually a clear sign of an impending eruption.
