malignant hyperthermia… or any other kind of reactions.

why ask about herbal preparations?
A
They may accentuate the toxicity or interfere with drug metabolism or clearance. May also affect bleeding time.

why ask about recreational drugs?
A
may need to be given an opiate for premedication and we need to monitor for withdrawal symptoms especially during, and after long procedures.
