there is variation in every population due to mutation - lots of different alleles.
This leads to a range of phenotypes
Competition
Individuals within a population compete for a range of things such as food, mates, shelter, survival from the predators
Survival of the fittest
Individuals with the “best” features are likely to be the best competitors.
These individuals are not likely to get a mate.
Reproduction
Successful individuals pass on their beneficial alleles to their offspring.
