GPD INSTRUCTORS
Relevant training in working dog scent
Good verbal and written skills
Supported by their line manager
A new instructor should have a mentor instructor for
The first 12 months
An instructor’s license to train must b renewed every
3 years
An instructor CPD should be completed and evidenced
Within 3 months
The trainer may only deliver up to
50% of the training annual requirements

The number of training hours logged on courses will not fall below
5 hours
For training days if 8 hours
The maximum hours logged will be 6 hours

Course length: Novice handler - Novice dog
325 hours - 13 week course, 5 hours daily training
Course length: Novice handler - trained dog
Minimum 200 hours (8 week course - 5 hours training time per day)
Course length: Experienced handler - Novice dog
200hours (8week course - 5 hours per day)
Experienced handler / trained dog
Minimum 50 hours (2 week course, 5 hour days)
