Definition of neurons
The primary responsibility of these neurons is to transmit nerve impulses from the sensory organs to the central nervous system (cns) and from the cns to the effector organs
Three types of neurons
Sensory neurons
Interneuron
Motor neuron
Function of a motor neuron
Conduct nerves impulses from the cns to the effector organs to bring out a response
Function of a sensory neuron
Conduct nerve impulses from the sensory organs to the cns so that the stimulus is interpreted and action can be taken if necessary
Function of interneuron
Connect neurons together
Form a connection between the motor neuron and sensory neuron in the cns.
Differentiate between motor neuron and sensory neuron
Motor neuron
-dendrites are short
-has many dendrites
-cell body occurs closer to the end of the neuron
-dendrites do not have myelin sneath and neurilemma sneath
Sensory neuron
-dendrite is long
-has one dendrite
-cell body occurs in the middle of the neuron
-dendrite has myelin sneath and neurilemma sneath
