The Spinal Cord is..?
A “super highway” for all information/messages going to and leaving the brain.
What is a neuron?
A cell that sends and receives information in the form of a neural impulses (electrochemical energy).
What are the different types of neurons?
Sensory Neurons.
Part of Somatic nervous system.
Afferent - sends messages to the central nervous system from our sensory organs, such as the eye.
Motor Neurons.
Part of Somatic nervous system
Efferent - sends messages from the central nervous system to the body (muscles or glands).
Interneurons.
Located in the central nervous system.
Relays messages from sensory neuron to motor neuron. - known as the link between sensory and motor neurons.
What are the different parts of a neuron?
Dentrites
Soma
Nucleus
Axon.
Transmits messages from the Soma to other cells in the body.
Myelin Sheath.
- Protects messages from interference.
Axon terminal.
Synapses.
Glial Cells.
