How does nitrogen cycle throughout the ecosystem

1. Nitrogen Exists in the atmosphere as N2
   2.Absorbed by legumes which have nitrifying bacteria in root nodules
2. These bacteria then converts N2 to ammonium, nitrite and/or nitrate ions
   4.This is called nitrification
   5.Also occurs through lightning
3. Plants which absorb this nitrogen are then consumed by animals
   7.Decomposers will convert wastes remains to ammonium and/or nitrate ions
4. Denitrifying bacteria convert to N2.
