Church discipline of a member that Jesus teaches
Each of the steps have the same purpose - the restoration of a brother. It is only the failure of each step that leads to the next
1st step of discipline
Attempt to restore by telling the person his fault alone.
2nd step of discipline
Attempt to restore by taking 2 or 3 witnesses
3rd step of discipline
Attempt to restore by telling the church
4th step of discipline
Attempt to restore by separating from him. This step is for restoration as well. withdraw from him in meekness and love to draw him back.
The purpose of disciplining sin
- To stop the spread
- To protect the testimony of Christ and His Church
- To encourage repentance

- Delivered to Satan
- For the destruction of his flesh
- That the Spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Unrepentant sin may even lead to the death of a believer, but not to the loss of his salvation.
Any habit which controls us or to which we become addicted is therefore wrong on that basis alone. We are to be controlled only by the Spirit not by our desires or habits.
