Induction of abortion
A
- Gemeprost (a prostaglandin) is administered vaginally as pessaries and is suitable for inducing an abortion.
- Misoprostol (a prostaglandin) is given by mouth, buccally, sublingually or vaginally to induce an abortion.
- Pre-treatment with Mifepristone (anti-progestogen) can facilitate the process of abortion. It sensitises the uterus for administration of the prostaglandin… allowing abortion to occur in a shorter time and with a lower dose of prostaglandin.
