Gemeprost (a prostaglandin) is administered vaginally as pessaries and is suitable for inducing an abortion.
Misoprostol (a prostaglandin) is given by mouth, buccally, sublingually or vaginally to induce an abortion.
Pre-treatment with Mifepristone (anti-progestogen) can facilitate the process of abortion. It sensitises the uterus for administration of the prostaglandin… allowing abortion to occur in a shorter time and with a lower dose of prostaglandin.
