apneic episodes occur in the presence of resp muscle effort
apneic episodes lasting 10 secs or longer are clinically significant
apneic episodes most prevalent during REM sleep

Scoring of apneas
drop in peak signal excursion by >=90% of pre-event baseline using an oronasal thermal sensor (diagnostic study), PAP device flow (titration study) or an alternative apnea sensor for >=10 secs
