A
A surgical procedure carried out to remove the upper part of the stomach and the oesphagus. Typically for oesphageal cancer. Can be performed via a large incision thorocoabdomical or by key hole surgery

Mobilise patient to prevent formation of blood clots, pneumonia.
Coughing- clear mucus
Deep breathing exercises- to fully expand lungs preventing infection and risk of collapse
