Describe 2 features of a laser printer
- Has a drum containing dust. When a printout is required, the print image is magnetised and dust is drawn to the paper in the pattern of the image. This pattern of dust is then burnt into paper in order for it to hold the pattern
- They can be connected by wires or wirelessly as a resource in a stand alone computer’s network
How do Inkjet printers work and evaluate them in business environments?
- They work by squirting tiny jets of coloured ink onto a page and the image is built using these varying dots
- They are cheaper than laser printers but they’re often slow and the quality of the images are worse than those of laser printers
What are plotters and evaluate them in business environments?
A device that produces diagrams by dotting pens on paper.
They can be very slow to print but can produce very large diagrams (suitable in an architects office or a kitchen designer)
What is a monitor and compare the two different types of monitors?
A visual display unit (VPU) that displays graphics, etxt and video on a screen. The two types of monitors are Cathode ray tube (CTU) and Thin film transistors (TFT). TFT provide greater picture quality and take up less desk space, and are lightweight
What are Speakers and how are they used in businesses?
A device that produced audio output provided the computer system has a sound card installed.
Businesses use audio output in automated telephone answering systems as it saves money rather than having a receptionist. They are also useful in alarm systems and to communicate publically with employees and customers in different industries
What are Head/earphones?
Personalised speakers in which a user wears a headset containing earphones. No one else can hear what the user is hearing
They can be used by employees who work in call centres and wish to cut out the noise of other employees talking or they can be used for entertainment
What is a digital projector?
A device that projects material from a computer screen onto a large whiteboard. They can be interactive
This can be used to enhance group discussion, aid presentations and allow for staff participation
What is a data projector and what is an advantage of these?
A device that projects material onto a large screen but is not interactive. These are cheaper than a digital projector
