14
Q

what is air resistance and thrust think of example they both encorperated

A

Thrust – the force causing an object to move (such as the force from a rocket engine)
Air resistance (or drag) – the friction of the air on a moving object

Q

what is Upthrust and weight and think of an example where they work toghether

A

Upthrust – the force of a fluid (such as water) pushing an object upwards (making it float)
Weight – the name given to the force of gravity on a mass

20
Q

contact forces give example

A

A force which acts between objects that are physically touching
-friction ( when two object rub against each other )
- air resistace (object moving through air )

21
Q

What is a non contact force

A

A force which acts at a distance, without any contact between bodies, due to the action of a field

22
Q

non contact forces examples

A
  • magnetic force ( magnetic poles that can be attractive or repulsive )

-electrostatic force ( charged objects which can be attractive or repulsive )

23
Q

what is a force pair

A

the interaction of two objects when force exerted on one object by another

24
Q

what is weight

A

The force acting on an object due to gravitational attraction

25
what happens as a result of a gravitational field
Objects stay firmly on the ground Objects will always fall to the ground Satellites are kept in orbit
26
what instruments can we use to meausre weight
- can use top pan balance to find mass then weight found inderectly thorugh calculation - newton meter like weighing scale which measures force in newtons consists of hook and spring
27
what is the center of mass of an object
the point which the weight of an object acts | can be found throguh symmetry
28
how can you find the center of mass on an iregular object
Locate its balance point ## Footnote broomstick has a centre of mass slightly closer to the head of the broom since there is more mass located there
29
what is the difference between mass and weight
a mass remians the same however the weight will differ depengin on the strength of the gravitational filed on different planets.
30
how does Gravitational field strength relate to planet size
the larger the planet the bigger the Gravitational field strength
31
Newton's 3rd law of motion
-when 2 objects interact, -they must exert equal and opposite forces on each other
32
driving force
The force which causes object to move or keep moving
33
resultant force
a single force that describes all of the forces operating on a body
34
how to determine the resultant force
when many forces applied to an object they can be combined or added to produce a final force
35
what does resulatant force tell us
the direction the object will move as a result of all forces and the magnitude of teh final force
36
what two types can forces combine to be
balanced forces unbalanced forces
37
what is another way of saying teh resualtant force
Net force
38
if resultant is 0 then give example
forces are balanced book resting on table forces equal
39
What if forces are unbalenced give example
forces combined in such a way that they do not cancel out tug of war
40
How to work out resultant force
-calculate difference of all acting forces
41
Newton's 1st law of motion
An object will remain at rest or move at constant velocity unless acted on by a resultant (unbalanced) force
42
Impact of newtons 1st law of motion
-stationary = stays at rest -moving = constant speed and same direction
43
when resultant force is not 0
-movement depends on size and direction
44
What is the overall force when two opposite forces are not equal
-size the difference between the two forces The direction based of larger force
45
free body force diagram
A diagram showing all the forces acting on an object, drawn as arrows from a single point, labelled with their size and direction.SS | this is an example
46
what does tension allways act away from
always acts away from from the mass
47
if a force acts upon an angle what might happen
the force may be broken down or resolved into two components | single force into two perpendicular components ## Footnote A horizontal component A vertical component
48
what might a resultant force diagram end up lookin like
