Gives us the power to perform duties
What is the aim of PACE?
To establish a balance between powers of the police and the freedom and rights of the public (Human rights act)
What are codes of practice?
Part of PACE that give us rules to follow when we use police powers
What happens if PACE is breached?
It can lead to a loss of evidence or inadmissible evidence
What was the law prior to PACE and why was PACE introduced?
The SUS law (suspect under suspicion) - PACE introduced following Brixton riots in 1981 which occurred after operation swamp (heavy use of SUS laws)
