*Entry to search for and arrest a person RGB that they are there.
Or
*Entry to prevent serious injury or damage.
Section 18 of Pace
Search after an arrest
- Arrested for indictable offence
- Premises occupied or controlled by suspect
- RGS evidence of that offence
- RGS evidence of connected or similar indictable offence
- Taken to custody then authority of inspector or above.
- Search before custody - inspector informed asap if necessary for effective investigation
Section 19 of PACE
Seizure of property
A constable who is lawfully on any premises may seize:
- Anything you have RGB is evidence of an offence.
- Anything which has been obtained in consequence of the commission of an offence.
- Anything covered by a search warrant.
The seizure must be necessary to prevent the item being:
- Concealed
- Lost
- Altered
- Destroyed

- Search premises where arrested
- Search premises they were in immediately prior to arrest.
- Arrested for indictable offence
- RGB evidence of the offence arrested for.

Section 22 of PACE
Retain seized property
Seized property may be retained for specific reasons:
- Use as evidence in trial
- forensic examination
- further investigation
- establish the lawful owner
One reasons above no longer valid-seized property to be claimed by lawful owner.
Section 23 of PACE
Premises- specifically covered
Any place including:
- Any vehicle, vessel, aircraft or hovercraft
- Any offshore installation
- Any renewable energy installation
- Any tent or moveable structure
Section 117 PACE
Use of force
*Reasonable force in the execution of your duty.
As a last resort when:
- The premises are known to be unoccupied.
- The owner/Occupier is known to be absent.
- The occupier or other person entitled to grant access , refuses to do so.
- It is impossible to contact the owner or other person entitled to grant access
- If premises entered by force , YOU must ensure it’s secure before leaving.
- Not to use force would frustrate the operation or endanger someone.

Power of arrest
A constable may arrest if :
- anyone who is about to commit an offence.
- anyone who is in the act of commiting an offence
- anyone whom he has reasonable grounds for suspecting to be about to commit the offence.
- anyone whom he has reasonable grounds for suspecting to be committing an offence.
