For the purpose of ascertaining whether a vehicle is carrying

• a person who has committed an offence other than a road traffic offence or excise offence
• a person who is a witness to such an offence
• a person intending to commit such an offence
• a person who is unlawfully at large

Creates a power to enter premises to effect an arrest

For executing

• a warrant of arrest from magistrates court
• arresting a person for an indictable offence
• arresting a person under S. 4 Public Order Act, S. 4 Road Traffic Act, S. 163 Road Traffic Act
• recapturing any person whatsoever who is unlawfully at large and whom is pursuing
• to save life or limb, preventing serious damage to property
