• Elderly are discarded in rural communities
• Retirement is seen as a state of dependency
• Social and cultural separation of retired and non-retired

• They have been one of the groups that have been impacted by the service decline
• For example, they have an increasing dependency on cars and this is due to lack of services and the need to travel to places like doctors for example
