White Broken Line
You may change lanes if it is safe to do so.
Solid White Line
Intended to discourage you from changing lanes. It is legal to do so in California, unless the solid white line designates a turn.
One Solid Yellow Line and one Broken Yellow line
You cannot pass another vehicle when a solid yellow line is on your side.
Two Solid Yellow Lines
No vehicle may pass.
Brocken Yellow Lines
Passing is permitted. Reversible center lane.
Two sets of solid double yellow lines that are two or more feet apart.
These lines stand for a solid wall. Don’t drive on or over these lines.
Two yellow lines on both sides of the lane-inner line is broken, outer line is solid.
Indicate a center left turn lane.
White arrows
Indicate whether the lane proceeds ahead, merges, turns, or exits.
White Curb
You may only stop long enough to pick up or drop off passengers or mail.
Green Curb
You may park for a limited time.
Yellow Curb
You may stop here only long enough to load or unload passengers or freight no longer than posted.
Red Curb
No stopping, standing, or parking. (A bus may stop at a red zone marked for buses.)
Blue Crub
Parking for the disabled.
Speedometer
Indicates speed in both miles and kilometers per hour.
Tachometer
Indicates rotations in the engine in revolutions per minute.
Odometer
Indicates the total number of miles your car has been driven since it was manufactured.
Fuel gauge
Shows the fuel level in your car’s fuel tank.
Gas pedal (Accelerator)
This pedal is located on the floor to the far right.
Brake Pedal
Located to the left of the accelerator.
Parking brake (also known as hand or emergency brake)
It keeps the car from moving when parked or is used to slow the car down if the regular brakes fail.
Headlights
You must use your headlights between one-half hour after sunset and one-half hour before sunrise. Turn on your headlights whenever you use your windshield wipers in bad weather or when there is insufficient light and pedestrians or vehicles cannot be seen clearly at a distance of 1,000 ft.
High-beams
Used in times of very low visibility, however you should not use high-beams in fog, as they will only reflect the dampened air and blind other drivers.
High-beams are to be turned off when:
An oncoming vehicle is within 500 ft of you or when the vehicle you are following is within 300 ft.
ABS
Antilock Braking System allows the driver to steer safely while braking under emergency conditions. You need to maintain steady pressure on the brake pedal to activate ABS.
