What is the use for Aspirin in paramedic practice?
In suspected myocardial ischaemia - reducing platelet aggregation and limiting clot development
What are the adverse effects of Aspirin?
- Allergic reaction - asthma, angioneurotic oedema, urticaria, rhinitis, shock)
- Aggravation of bleeding tendencies
- Gastric irritation (unlikely with 1 tablet)
What are the contraindication to Aspirin administration?
- Known or suspected allergy to salicylates
- known or suspected active bleeding
- known bleeding tendency
- Chest pain associated with psychostimulant overdose (due to increased risk of cerebral haemorrhage).

1 tablet - 300mg chewed and swallowed, or dissolved in a small amount of water.
