Would use rendre if taking it back in person.

Virer - familier. Congédier and licencier formal.

What if he deceives/tricks (2) me? He cheated on his wife (had an affair) and cheats at cards (cheating is rife). My disappointment would be unbearable. He is dishonest (2), but deception (2) does not suit him.

Et s’il me trompe (dupe)? Il a trompé sa femme (il a eu une aventure) et il triche aux cartes (la tricherie est répandue) Ma déception serait insupportable. Il est déshônnete (malhônnete), mais la tromperie (duperie) n’est pas son genre.

Me tromper - more emotional. Also means cheating relationship. Duper more play a trick. Tricher just for a game/rules/exams.
