Who invented the facebow?
Dr. George B. Snow (A DENTIST!!)
What is the objective of the face-bow?
To record the position of MAXILLARY occlusal PLANE ONLY!!
Does the face-bow help to determine or record CO or CR?
No! Face bow ONLY determines MAXILLARY occlusal PLANE!
What registration should be taken from the bottom side of the bite fork?
NONE!
What is a face-bow?
A caliper-like instrument used to record the spatial relationship of the maxillary arch to some anatomical reference point or points and then transfer the relationship to an articulator
How does the face-bow orient the dental cast?
Orients it in a similar relationship to the opening axis of the articulator
What are the customary anatomic references for the facebow?
What is the “fixed triad”
Why must you use fox plane before facebow?
To locate the maxillary occlusal plane
Which midline are you concerned about determining with the fox plane and occlusal rim?
Maxillary midline only
What 3 things must you do prior to applying the face bow transfer?
What are the 6 purposes of the face-bow transfer?
What are the 5 steps for locating the maxillary edentulous occlusal plane on the articulator?
Why do we not take a bite registration on the bottom of the bite-fork of the face-bow transfer?
Because the thickness of the metal would throw things off.
Which bite-fork should we use if not planning to melt the occlusal rim to the fork?
The HOLED DENTULOUS bite-fork
On which side should the stem of the bite fork be facing?
The left
In which direction should the midline notch of the fork be facing?
UP!
Is the take-one bite registration material prepared inside or outside the mouth?
Outside! Along with bite fork, temporary base-plate with occlusal wax tim and master cast all sitting on/with it
What is “take 1”
a bite registration material
Do you find the midline on the wax before or after adding the Take 1 registration paste?
Find the midline FIRST, the align the midline to the midline notch on the bite fork and hold into place using bite registration material….secure until set
What are the steps for assembling and removing the face bow?
Can the patient hold the bite fork?
Yes and No. They can hold it for you with their hand, but not with their mouth
What is the procedure for securing occlusal rims to the edentulous bite fork?
Which direction do the numbers face on the transfer jig?
Face the operator
