Q

where do you place the fan for MCL injury

A

medially (knee in slight flexion) - verbalize “Im going to have you keep your knee in slight flexion while i apply the fan since taping with a slight bend is good for injrued superfical and well as deep fiber whereas if your leg is traight, it is only good for superficial fibers.

15
Q

what do you have to do before you start taping? (10)

A
  • ask for consent
  • ask if they have any decreased sensation in the area
  • ask if they’ve ever been tape before? + did they ahve any reactions or do they know if they have any allergies to any adhesives?
  • check for cuts, abraisions, blisters
  • check ROM or special test (verbalize what special test and what you are looking for in the test)
  • check cap refill
  • verbalize what tape job you are doing and why
  • make sure the TA is in proper position and ask them if they are comfortable
  • pretend to spray
  • pretend to put heel and lace pad if tape job requires

16
Q

what should you be doing through tape job? (3)

A
  • explaining what you are doing and why
  • ask if it feels alright
  • check for windows and buldges
17
Q

what do you have to do after tape job? (4)

A
  • ask how it feels (comfortable, supportive, effective) - and fix if necessary
  • check for windows and buldges
  • check cap-refill
  • re-test range of motion or special test
18
Q

how do you perform an eversion talar tilt test?

A
  • have athletes foot hanging off table
  • one hand stabalizing anteriorly right above ankle
  • other hand on heel
  • pull athletes foot into plantar flexion and inversion (point and in)
  • invert heel and palpate to see if joint gaps (just verbalize that you are palpating to see if the joint gaps)
19
Q

how do you perform anterior drawyer test

A
  • have athlete flex their knee slightly
  • foot over able in resting position
  • one hand stabalizing anteriorly right above ankle
  • other hand on heel
  • attempt to draw calcaneus and talus forwards
  • watch for dimple just medial to fibula (just verbalize this)
  • verbalize that there should me very minimal movement during this test (otherwise its positive)
20
Q

how do you perform a valgus test

A
  • stand on lateral side of athltes leg, facing athlete
  • put right harm just below medial/posterior knee
  • leg should be straight (verbalize that this tests the superficial fibers) and between right arm and trunk of AT
  • left hand is holding just above knee on lateral side
  • using entire body and holding the leg stablaly, try bringing lower leg towards you
  • repeat with knee at 30 degrees (verbalize that this is to test the deep fibers)
21
Q

how do oyu perfrom a varus test

A
  • stand on medial soe of leg, facing athlete
  • right hand on medial knee
  • left hand slightly below lateral knee
  • using entire body, tryi bringing lower leg towards you
  • leg is straight the entire time
22
Q

how do you perform a scarf test

A
  • bring athletes arm up infront of them with 90 degree of flexion with your right hand
  • place left hand on scapula to make sure it stays stable and doesnt move (verbalize this)
  • tell athlete to relax
  • bring arm into horizontal adductions (slowly and carefully)
  • ask if they felt any pain
23
Q

What does the medial ankle tape job do

A

suppports deltoid ligament and prevents ankle excessive eversion

24
Q

What does the lateral ankle tape job do

A

prevents excessive ankle inversion

25
What does the arch tape job do
supports arch
26
What does the medial knee tape job do
- limits valgus stress - stabalized joint agaisnt excessive medial movement
27
What does the lateral knee tape job do
- limits varus stress - stabalized joint agaisnt excessive lateral movement
28
What does the knee hyperextension tape job do
Reduces the knee’s range of motion in extension.
29
What does the thumb tape job do
prevents range of motion of thumb in extension and abduction
30
What does the AC shoulder tape job do
stabalize the AC joint
31
What does the elbow tape job do
Reduces the elbow’s range of motion in extension.
32
What does the wrist tape job do
Reduces the wrist's range of motion in extension.
33
knee taping (LCL injury)
- varus test - knees like () - apply fan on lateral side - prevents varus stress/stabalized joint agaisnt excessive lateral movement
34
knee taping (MCL injury)
- valgus test - knees like )( - apply fan to medial side - prevents valgus stress/stabalized joint agaisnt excessive medial movement
