Seg:

- look in monolayer for WBC distb.
- 40x to locate
- 100x to ID
Eric– Choose a drug and calculate the correct dose & volume, then draw up
Dose= weight X recommended dose Volume= dose/concentration
Robyn– Set up NRB system & choose the correct ET tube and cuff for stuffed animal
NRB <7kg
- Gas hose to outlet port of vaporizer
- Scavenge tubing DIRECTLY to scavenge
- Pop-off on tube OPEN
ET tube– Cats= 3-4.5mm Dogs=5-18mm
Cuff– width of cuff should be 40% of the circumference of the leg
Scott– Set up RB system, hook up Jerry and ventilate
RB >7kg
- Y tubing to inlet/outlet port
- Res. bag on port
- Scavenge to scavenge port
- Pop-off on system OPEN
Ventilating: Connect end of Y tubing to Jerry Close pop-off Ventilate and watch manometer for 20cmH2O pressure Open pop-off
Michaela– Give a SQ injection on a stuffed animal & ID the landmarks for a lumbar IM injection
Hook up an ambu bag to patient and O2 tank
SQ injection:
-tent between shoulder blades and insert needle bevel up with needle pointing cranially
IM Lumbar landmarks:
- Pointer finger down lumbar spine
- Thumb over wing of ilium
- Give injection inside triangle between finger and thumb
Liz– Select an appropriate needle size and perform a jugular blood draw on model
Dog: Jugular- 20ga Cat/Small dog: Jugular- 22ga Blood draw: 1. Break seal 2. Put on needle 3. Locate trachea and palpate vein 4. Hold off vein and wet it 5. Quick stab & look for flash of blood 6. Release pressure 7. Pull out needle and hold off
Jessie– Femoral restraint on a stuffed cat
Femoral restraint on cat:
- Place in lateral
- Scruff and stretch with arm along back
- Hold hind leg up and tail out of the way with pinky
- Karate chop vein to hold off
Amy- Correctly restrain a live dog for lateral saph. blood draw
Lat-saph:
Hold dog against body with arms over
Reach underneath and grab legs closest to your body
Roll dog down into lateral and hold off vein
Amy- Correctly restrain a live dog for jugular blood draw
Dog sternal with legs over edge of table or sitting
Hold dogs muzzle and point head upwards
Hold legs or body
Amy- Correctly restrain a live dog for cephalic blood draw
Hold head with elbow & against the shoulder
Grab the front leg and roll the vein
