Question 1

practical: investigate the motion of everyday objects such as toy cars or tennis balls

Answer 1

• Take a tape measure and measure out 1 m and drop the tennis ball
• use the stopwatch to measure the time taken for the object to travel that distance
• record distance travelled and time taken
• repeat 2 to 3 times calculating the average time
• repeat those first three points are different heights; 1.2m, 1.4m, 1.8m etc

Question 2

practical: investigate how extension varies with applied force for helical springs, metal wires and rubber bands

Answer 2

• Measure the length of a spring using meter ruler
• Add a known weight to the hook
• Measure the new length of spring
• Repeat with a range of different weights
• Repeat experiment and calculate the average extension for each weight
