Participants were shown 7 videos of car crashes and given a questionnaire after each one

They were asked to give an account of the accident, then they were asked questions relating to the accident.

In order to counteract order effects, groups were presented with a different order of films

The authors theorised that the stronger the verb, the higher the speed estimate would be

Each subject received one of the 5 verbs

5-30 second long videos, safety promotion films
4 of the 7 clips were staged crashes
Staged crashes had known speeds (2 it was 40, 1 it was 20, 1 was 30)
This meant the accuracy of speed estimates could be measured.
