Infective endocarditis prophylaxis in high risk surgeries
DO NOT give antibiotic prophylaxis in
Dental, thoracic, abdominal, childbirth
Detail:
1- dental procedures
2- upper and lower gastrointestinal tract procedures
3- genitourinary tract; this includes urological, gynaecological and obstetric procedures
4- childbirth
5- upper and lower respiratory tract; this includes ear, nose and throat procedures and bronchoscopy
Exceptions of prophylaxis infective endocarditis in high risk surgeries
If patient is already on antibiotics for the infective source which is being operated on, then add endocarditis prophylaxis
