Wat do we need to protect the pulp from ?

• Bacteria / toxins
• Chemicals leaching form rest materials
• Thermal +/or electrical stimulation via conductance through overlying restoration

What ideally do we want materials used for indirect pulp capping and direct pulp to be?

Answer 2

• Bacteriocidal / static
• Mildly irritant to pulp to stimulate tertiary dentine bridge formation (usually via pH change)
• Adhesive to bond and seal
• Not dissolve away over time
• Infiltrate ionically into remaining dentine overlying pulp so strengthening /reinforcing it
• Biocompatibile with pulp and overlying restorative material

• GIC lining mateials
• Dentine bonding agents
• Setting CaOH
