Out of the Amazon Leadership Principles, which principle do you feel like is your greatest strength?
Customer obsession:
I really focus on the customer and care about them. My ultimate goal is to make them happy.
Design an object that provides good user experience.
Who is it for (lets create a persona)?
What goal is it trying to achieve?
How often is it used?
What technology is used? (mobile? desktop?)
Design Exercise: Build an in-store kiosk experience.
Reiterate the challenge statement. Ask: About Store: 1. What does the store sell? 2. What payment options are accepted? 3. Shopping carts? Baskets? Bags? About Users (persona): 1. Who are they? 2. Fill out persona profile. Create Task checklist: 1. List all the tasks a user could perform.
What would you consider one of your failures?
Be honest. It’s not about being perfect but using your experiences wisely.
Peer Review. We didn’t ask users enough questions or do any paper prototyping or usability testing.
How would you improve user experience on a section of the website?
Let’s say a VP came to your desk and said we needed a timeline on past orders and gave you not further direction. What would you do?
Ask your wife…
Be prepared to cite work experiences where you were an owner, leader, when you applied customer focus and when and how you have been innovative as a designer.
iPhone app and/or Polls feature.
How did you handle when your design is opposed by all the senior management and you know that it is right and they are wrong?
Find the evidence to prove your point. Whether its competitive analysis, usability testing or anything you need to back up your claims with research. Focus on its impact on the business, revenue and the customer. It’s important to note however that you need to do this in a very careful way. Leveling with people and talking to them very frankly can go a long way. Mention teaching in Oakland. This is where you first learned how to do this. Lots of psych involved here.
Design exercise: They give you an idea and you need to walk them through your design process and along the way create a design from that idea.
Practice the whiteboarding sessions.
