Reflex tested with child in a semi-reclining or supine position. Stimulated by dropping head backward from a semi-sitting position or a loud noise near the head. Response elicits extension or flexion and abduction of arms and spreading fingers. Age range: Birth-5 mo.
Moro Reflex
. Reflex tested with child supine or sitting with arms and legs extended. Stimulated by passively or actively turning the head 90 degrees to one side. Response elicits increase extensor tone of limbs on the face side and flexor tone of limbs on the skull side. Age range: Birth-4 yo 6 mo.
Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR)
- Reflex tested with child sitting or quadruped. 1. Flexing the child’s head and bringing the chin towards the chest which causes flexion of the UE and extension of the LE. 2. Extending the child’s head causes UE extension and LE flexion. Age range Birth- 4 to 6 mo.
Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (STNR)
- Reflex tested in any position usually supine. Stimulated by pressure in palm of hand or ulnar side. Response is flexion of fingers, grasping of stimulus object. Age range Birth- 3 to 4 mo.
Palmar grasp reflex
Reflex tested in any position. Stimulated by touch/stroke outward on cheek. Response elicits lower lip, tongue, and head to move toward stimulus. Age range Birth- 4 mo
Rooting Reflex
Reflex tested in any position. Stimulated to lips, gums, or font of tongue. Response is sucking swallowing motions. Age range Birth- 2 mo.
