Q

Can we make a true breed if it is a heterozygous phenotype?

A

It would not be possible to produce “true breeders” with a heterozygous genotype

Q

In a testcross for two genes, what type of gametes are produced with a incomplete linkage?

A

Incomplete linkage means that greater than 50% of the gametes produced are
nonrecombinant and less than 50% of the gametes are recombinant; the recombination
frequency is greater than 0 and less than 50%

Q

What is the relationship between recombination frequency and a centiMorgan?

A

A recombination frequency of 1% is equal to one centiMorgan, a unit of distance for
genetic maps based on observed recombination frequencies.

Q

Explain how a cell would be blue or white?

A

Blue: The colonies that carry plasmid without foreign
DNA inserts will have intact lacZ genes, make functional β-galactosidase, cleave X-gal, and
turn blue.
White:Colonies that carry plasmid with foreign DNA inserts will not make functional β-
galactosidase because the lacZ gene is disrupted by the foreign DNA insert. These colonies
will remain white.
