Homan’s sign: dorxiflexion of foot= calf pain
DVT: treatment:
heparin for prevention and acute management
Use warfarin for long-term prevention of DVT recurrence.
Pulm emboli
Sudden onset dyspnea, chest pain tachypnea
May present as sudden death

Fat emboli
Long bone fracture and liposuction,
Classic triad of hypoxemia, neurologic abn, petechial rash
Amniotic fluid emboli
Can lead to DIC, esp. post partum
Most pulm emboli arise from
95% arise from deep leg veins.
Lines of Zahn (pink=platelets and fibrins, red=RBC) help distinguish from post mortem thrombi.
