When to activate school bus ambers
100-300 ft before stopping when traveling at or under 35 mph
OR
300-500 ft if traveling more than 35 mph
When to activate hazards at a Rail Grade Crossing
Hazards on within 200 ft.
Stop at least 15-50 ft from the crossing.
Emergency roadside stop
Mirrors Signal/pull off Set parking brake Neutral Hazards Remove hands and feet DO NOT REMOVE SEATBELT
Turn to examiner and state that you would turn off the bus, take the keys with you, radio for help if needed, and go back to deal with the emergency.
When instructed, put bus back in drive, release parking brake, mirrors, hazards off, signal, proceed, turn off signal.
Left and right turns
Turn on signals 100 ft from intersection.
Be sure to check inside and outside tracking, plus tail swing.
