What are the conflicts from environmentalists vs water users (4)
What are the solutions and effectiveness of the conflict between environmentalists and water unions (3 solutions and 3 effectiveness)
What’s the conflict of local vs tourists (4 and named example)
Named example: honeypot towns such as Keswick, Bowness on Windermere
-air pollution- CO2 creating global warming… affecting asthmatics etc
-Noise pollution- disturbs locals
Congestion such as in honey pots towns such as Keswick
-Volume of visitors, overflowing car parks, resulting in people parking on verges and edge of roads, destroying grass and eroding verges
What’s the solution and effectiveness of the local vs tourist conflict ( 3 solutions and evaluations)
-solution, build large edge of town car park eg water head, 1 mile from centre of Ambleside which can hold volumes of cars and stop people parking in CBD. Bad because unsightly and spoils views
What’s the conflict of tourists/ walkers v environmentalists ( 5 and named example)
-volumes of people walking on the same path (22 million visitor days)
-people take short cuts away from the designated paths- destroys the plants and grass etc
What are the solutions and evaluations of tourists/ walkers vs enviormentalists
Solution- sign posts, encouraging people to stay on the path- Not effective because people may ignore the signs and making them too big may be unsightly
Solutions, cloche netting- mesh put down which allows replanting of grass seed- mesh holds in place. Not effective because it only works in places of minor erosion but won help in deep erosion.
Solution, stone pitching, large blocks of local stone are put on the path- hard wearing so wont erode quickly. It’s not effective because because its hard to access steeper and higher areas with heavy stone, it is also expensive with £100 a meter
what is quarrying?
Quarrying is the process of removing rock, sand, gravel or other minerals from the ground in order to use them to produce materials for construction or other uses.
basically its an unsightly hole
what’s the conflict of quarrying vs tourists (4)
-unsightly- spoils landscape/ views
- can be noisy, blasting of rocks disturbs the piece, can disturb the live stock and can cause sheep to miscarry, reduction in profits for farmers
-dust- can settle in crops and peoples gardens , can block light and restrict growth for the crops, also causing breathing difficulties for asthmatics
- large trucks for transferring rocks, in towns such as Keswick on Windermere can cause vibrations and damage buildings, it can also create traffic congestions
what’s the solution/ effectiveness of quarrying vs tourists (4 of each)
