  • everyone should fast as it is a pillar so it is obligatory
  • however allah stated that some are exempt:
    • travellers
    • young children
    • elderly
    • pregnant

what happens if you break the fast

A
  • if you break the fast you have to pay fidya- a fine of £5 per missed days- aims to feed the hungry 2 meals a day
  • if you purposefully break the fast, you have to fast for an extra 60 days and pay kaffarah and should pay to feed 60 poor people each fast broken
